Obituary
A tombstone has been installed on the Faroe Islands to commemorate the last known location of James Bond.
The fictional super-spy, as portrayed by Daniel Craig, never returned from his final mission in No Time To Die and was last seen on Safin's Poison Island in disputed waters between Japan and Russia.
Although a fictional location, the scenes were shot on Kalsoy island, one of the small islands in the Danish archipelago, and locals have installed a headstone in honour of 007.
Although a fictional location, the scenes were shot on Kalsoy island, one of the small islands in the Danish archipelago, and locals have installed a headstone in honour of 007.
A video promoting the memorial has been shared online by Guide to Faroe Islands, an online travel guide endorsed by the local tourism board, which is promoting a James Bond 007 Official Faroe Islands Tour.
The clip shows the headstone being crafted and the captions explain: "James Bond was here, but he never returned home... now the islanders have decided to commemorate him. Bond will be forever remembered at the place he was last seen in the Faroe Islands."
The headstone is dated 1962-2021 — the years the first and 25th Bond films were released — and has been engraved with the quote read by Ralph Fiennes' M at the end of No Time To Die: 'The proper function of man is to live. Not to exist'.
The James Bond tour on Kalsoy promises to 'take you to the heart of the filming locations' used by director Cary Joji Fukunaga to bring the 25th Bond film's final act to life on screen. Taking in a hike to Kallur Lighthouse to see the memorial, the tour also visits the house in which the film crew used as a base camp, and you'll also hear stories from the production from locals.
alking about Bond's demise in No Time To Die, Daniel Craig recently revealed that he'd asked for 007 to die in his final film back in 2006, after the Berlin premiere for Casino Royale.
"It’s the only way I could see for myself to end it all and to make it like that was my tenure, someone else could come and take over," Craig said.
However, as the final credits of No Time To Die revealed, James Bond WILL return in the the inevitable 26th Bond film. MGM, the studio which co-owns the rights to the 007 films with EON Productions, was recently acquired by Amazon, so expect news on that front soon.

Bond spends much of his early life abroad, becoming multilingual in German and French because of his father's work as a Vickers armaments company representative. Bond is orphaned at age 11 after his parents are killed in a mountain climbing accident in the Aiguilles Rouges near Chamonix.
